Spring Training is underway and the most wonderful time of the year is upon us once again! Yes, Baseball is back and after a long, cold, offseason, that first pitch cannot come fast enough.
The Chicago Cubs winning the World Series was magical but repeating will be much more difficult with that giant target now on their backs. Teams have reloaded and it is anyone’s chance to make a run. The biggest deal in the offseason in my opinion was the addition of Chris Sale to an already stacked rotation in Boston. Losing Ortiz is monumental but that starting rotation and that bullpen looks unstoppable, on paper. Before, and now certainly after the addition of Sale, Boston is clearly the favorite in the AL East as they bring offense and pitching to the table in 2017.
The Indians will look to make another run at the World Series after being so close last year, and they still have the main cogs in place. Tito Francona and the front office showed no signs of settling for status quo however, as they went out and spent some big bucks to get a big bat in Encarnacion. I fully expect Washington to improve this year, along with the Dodgers and their intimidating ace. The questions with these two contenders as of late has always been staying healthy and winning a big one in the post season.
In the American League West, do not be surprised if the Houston Astros make a deep push with the sluggers in that lineup. Speaking of hitting, it’s all about the bats for fellow American League entries, the Rangers and Blue Jays. Conversely, in the National League, It is all about the pitching for the Mets and Giants if these two teams have any plans for returning to the post season this Fall. The Yankees, Orioles, Cardinals and Pirates are still building but any team can surprise the division at any moment of the season. Finding spots in the 5-6 man rotations of each pitching staff is always a grind in handicapping the baseball season but it will be fun in what will surely be another exciting campaign! Maintaining a high percentage is key when picking spots in match ups and will be vital to staying ahead of the game, as always.
Here are a few Season Win Totals I am on right now. Houston Astros OVER 90.5 wins, San Francisco Giants UNDER 89 wins, and Cleveland Indians UNDER 93.5 wins.
